Alberta RCMP announced Wednesday that a Red Deer member is facing an assault charge.
Cpl. Kent McDiarmid, 39, who has been suspended with pay since July, has been charged with one count of assault stemming from an incident last March.
On March 2, 2020, an altercation occurred in the Red Deer detachment cells, which resulted in McDiarmid striking a man after he was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
In March, an incident review was initiated and it was decided that an internal code of conduct and a criminal investigation would occur to look at the totality of the incident.
After that investigation, McDiarmid, a 15-year member of the RCMP was charged with one count of assault.
He will appear in court on March 24, 2021.
