Corp. Mike Evans of Red Deer RCMP has been recognized provincially for his community policing efforts and contributions to Citizens on Patrol.
The community policing officer with Red Deer RCMP was presented with an RCMP Liaison Award from the Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association at the Annual General Meeting & Workshop last fall,
Among Evans’s many achievements with the Red Deer group was designing a protocol for how the local COP operates. He is also supporting and assisting with member training, and advocating for COP and its safe communities initiatives.
As well, Evans helped create a local bike patrol, organized and attended Lock-it-or Lose-it events, and co-ordinated a COP presence at Red Deer Rebels games to help raise the profile of the group and what it does.
As a liaison between COP and Red Deer RCMP, Evans also ensures there’s “strong collaboration.”
To be chosen as an award recipient, Evans demonstrated outstanding service and “made a significant contribution to crime prevention as a law enforcement officer, performing regular duties in a unique and/or innovative way.”
Currently there are about 53 active Citizens on Patrol groups in Alberta.
