RCMP seized drugs and weapons, including a shotgun, after stopping a suspect riding an electric bike through Red Deer’s downtown.
Police said the RCMP’s Downtown Patrol Unit was on 45th Street when they saw a suspect ride by carrying an extendable baton and a knife on May 19. After stopping him, police found a number of weapons, including a bayonet, bear spray, an imitation firearm and a shotgun with the serial number scratched off. Also seized, was a “significant amount of fentanyl and methamphetamine” and GHB, usually known as Ecstasy.
A 45-year-old Red Deer man was arrested and charged with five counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of firearm, possessing a firearm knowing its unauthorized, possession of drugs, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in instruments, tampering with a firearm serial number and careless use of a firearm.
The suspect was scheduled to make an appearance in Red Deer’s Alberta Court of Justice on Friday.
