Two traffic stops conducted by Red Deer RCMP officers on bike patrol led to a number of charges and the seizure of dangerous weapons.

On Sept. 3, police stopped an unregistered motor vehicle. An officer spotted a weapon, and upon further investigation, three loaded firearms, ammunition and stolen mail were found inside the vehicle.

Brandon Loughlin, 23, of Stettler, faces 25 charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a break-in instrument.

He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 4.

A second large seizure occurred Sept. 8, involving another traffic stop by officers on bike patrol.

Police discovered the vehicle’s licence plate was associated with a car reported stolen a few days earlier. Inside the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm.

Jay Dee Coffman, 36, of Red Deer, faces 12 charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a controlled substance and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

The passenger, Kyle McGray, 31, of Red Deer, faces seven charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

McGray failed to appear at his October court date, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
