Red Deer RCMP returned two stolen trucks to their owner after locating them in a rental garage in the Mountview neighbourhood.

Police entered the detached rental garage on Feb. 25 and discovered two 2016 Dodge Durangos; the trucks had been stolen two days earlier out of Red Deer.

RCMP continue to investigate to determine the identity of the woman who rented the garage. She rented the space through an online ad, and paid cash up front for the first month’s rental.

“It’s not uncommon for criminals to look for short-term storage space where they can stash stolen property before they re-sell it, and often they look for space where the owner doesn’t live on the property and won’t notice suspicious activity,” says Cpl. Karyn Kay of the Red Deer RCMP.

“RCMP advise property owners to protect themselves from accidentally getting involved with criminals by asking questions about prospective tenants, and requiring multiple pieces of photo identification and proof of the contact information strangers are providing.”
