The Red Deer Rebels have added a new defenceman.

On Thursday, the Western Hockey League team announced it has acquired 2004-born defender Logan Cunningham in a trade with the Spokane Chiefs.

Red Deer shipped out a seventh-round pick in the 2023 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft in exchange for the six-foot-one, 178-pounder defenceman from Yellowknife, N.W.T.

Cunningham was drafted in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. He has recorded eight points in 65 regular season games with the Chiefs since the 2019-20 season. He has played two games so far this season.

The trade comes just one day after the Rebels traded 20-year-old defenceman Blake Gustafson to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.
