The Red Deer Rebels will kick off the much anticipated 2020-21 WHL season against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Red Deer will host the Tigers, in an empty Westerner Park Centrium on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m., before travelling to Medicine Hat on Feb. 27, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m., to finish off the home-and-home.
In the third contest of the season, Red Deer will travel down Highway 2 to battle the Calgary Hitmen on March 5 at 7:30 p.m.
March 6, the Rebels will host the Hitmen at 6 p.m.
The remainder of the schedule will be announced in early March. Only the five Alberta-based WHL teams will compete in the Central Division this season.
Although no fans will be allowed in arenas this season, the WHL announced plans for a brand new live streaming service for the 24-game season.
Friday, the WHL also received approval for a 24-game season in the East Division, which will be played in a hub city format in Regina. Seven teams will compete in that division, including the Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raiders, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, Swift Current Broncos, Brandon Wheat Kings, and Winnipeg ICE. The East Division will start play on March 12.
