The Red Deer Rebels selected a Czech defenceman with its only pick at the 2022 CHL Import Draft.
Vojtech Port was selected by Red Deer with the 49th pick in Friday’s draft, which featured WHL clubs selecting 23 players from nine nations. Overall, 64 players were selected by major junior hockey teams across the country.
The 2005-born blue liner recorded 22 points (3 goals, 19 assists) in 19 games with HC Sparta Praha U17 during the 2021-22 season. He also suited up for 21 games with HC Sparta Praha U20, collecting five points.
Port, who turns 17 in August, also played nine games for Czechia’s National Under-17 team last season.
The right-handed defender is six-foot-two and 175 pounds.
