Transgender Day of Remembrance will be recognized in Red Deer on Wednesday.

For the first time, City Hall will be lit up in the colours of the transgender flag starting at sundown to honour the lives of transgender individuals lost to violence in 2019.

The Trans and Non-Binary Aid Society is hosting a vigil to recognize the international day of remembrance at Red Deer Funeral Home & Crematorium on 67th Street from 6 to 8 p.m.

The non-profit society is dedicated to helping transgender and non-binary individuals in central Alberta.

The installation of lighting in City Hall Park at the end of last year has allowed City Hall to be lit up in recognition of local, provincial or national events.
