Red Deer’s newest and “grandest” casino will officially open on Friday.

With over 50 years of history, the building originally known as the Capri Hotel has now transitioned into the Red Deer Resort & Casino.

The new owners, the O’Chiese Business and Investment Centre say, while the name has changed and ongoing upgrades to the property continue, Red Deer Resort & Casino is honouring a commitment to provide “outstanding service and hospitality in a friendly, welcoming environment.”

The facility billed as Alberta’s leading hotel and conference centre features 241 guest rooms, 15 meeting rooms, a conference centre that covers 53,000 square feet, and “a groundbreaking casino that promises to reshape local entertainment.”

An array of gaming options will be offered in 38,000 square-felt of play space.

Employment opportunities and business investment in the city have grown through this project, said George Yammine, CEO of O’Chiese Business and Investment Center. He called the resort and casino’s completion a major milestone for Red Deer: “The casino will be a key driver of tourism and economic growth in the region, becoming a hub for entertainment for the region and beyond.”

Adrian Strawberry, hotel operations manager for O’Chiese Hospitality, promises guests “a world class entertainment experience… We have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition and we cannot wait for you to experience it.”

The resort and casino complex was redesigned to respect the cultural heritage of the O’Chiese First Nation and the regional landscape, promoting inclusivity, diversity, and culture.
