Now is the time to support your favourite Red Deer restaurant.

Diners coast to coast are participating in Canada Takeout Day Wednesday.

The initiative, which starts this week, asks Canadians to take a break from cooking on Wednesdays and order in from local restaurants.

Since COVID-19 measures have led to the temporary closure of restaurants, the initiative is a way to help support the local businesses.

“Restaurants are doing their part by staying open for takeout,” the Canadatakeout.com website states.

“Now it’s your turn to take an active part in the support of an industry that employs millions of people in this country.”

The website lists some Red Deer restaurants participating in the initiative: Famoso, Memphis Blues Barbeque House, Joey’s Seafood, Quiznos (Gaetz Avenue Crossing and 50th Avenue north locations), Opa! of Greece Taylor Plaza, Buster’s Pizza and Donair of Red Deer north, Burger King, Mohave Smokehouse and Bar, The Canadian Brewhouse and Fatburger in Red Deer north.
