Two Red Deer Polytechnic students were among the Albertans who brought home gold medals from the Skills Canada National Competition held in Vancouver last week.

Two RDP students were ranked first in their category: Tristen Hatto, in electrical installations; and Dayton Playford, in welding.

Thirty post-secondary students from Alberta competed nationally in 29 categories, and 24 earned gold, silver or bronze medals.
“We are incredibly proud of Team Alberta’s results at the Skills Canada National Competition. These results reflect how strong the technical training is in our province, and how passionate our educators are to prepare Alberta’s youth for the future world of work,” said Chris Browton, executive director of Skills Canada Alberta, in a statement.
