Red Deer Superstore workers ratify new contract

67% accept company’s offer

Alberta Superstore and Liquorstore union workers voted 67 per cent in favour of a new contract.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 401 said in Calgary and area, 66 per cent of members said yes to the contract, and workers in Edmonton and area voted 64 per cent in favour.

Meanwhile, workers in Red Deer and other smaller urban centres like Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Camrose, Lloydminster, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat, voted 74 per cent in favour of the contract.

Voting took place between Oct. 26 to 28.

Bargaining resumed with after Superstore workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike in late September. The strike vote was valid for 120 days and the union was only required to give a company 72 hour notice of strike action.
