Red Deerians have kicked it into high gear to move into first place in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge as the competition heads into its final days.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Red Deer led the country in total minutes of activity logged. Toronto was in second place Salisbury, N.B., was third; North Grenville, Ont., was fourth; and Tignish, P.E.I., was fifth.
In Alberta, Red Deer has held onto first place, followed by Calgary, Edmonton, Vulcan, and Lloydminster.
The month-long challenge runs until midnight on June 30 so it’s not too late for Red Deerians to help the city defend its national title.
In 2022 Red Deerians logged 19 million minutes of activity to beat out 1,700 communities to be named Canada’s Most Active Community — the first Alberta community to ever win — and took home the $100,000 prize.

Communities are ranked according to activity minutes logged, but the national and provincial winners will be based in part on activity minutes logged per capita so even smaller communities have a chance to win.
Individual adults can download the ParticipACTION app by visiting www.participaction.com to record any physical activity, from exercise classes, team sports, house cleaning, dog walking and more.
