Red Deer to get $1.8 million in provincial bridge funding

Red Deer will get $1.85 million in provincial cash for a bridge replacement project as Alberta government announced $86 million in funding help for 78 road, bridge, community airport and water infrastructure projects on Wednesday.

The bridge money for Red Deer will cover 75 per cent of the project’s $2.4 million cost.

Lacombe is also in line for bridge funding help, getting $685,500 towards a $914,000 bridge replacement project. Mountain View County is getting $187,500 towards a $250,000 culvert project.

In all, 33 bridge projects are getting $14.8 million in provincial funding.

Another 33 projects are getting $58.7 million under the province’s Water for Life and Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership grant programs.

Sylvan Lake is in line for just under $900,000 for a $2.9 million project to dig and connect new water wells. Three Hills is getting $1.2 million towards a $2 million residuals management facility project.

Buffalo Lake is will get $32,000 towards a $45,600 remote communication system upgrade.

Four airport projects will share $2.6 million in provincial funding. The Hanna airport is to receive $352,500, which will cover 75 per cent of the cost of a $470,000 airport runway lighting project.

All of the projects are expected to create about 1,000 jobs.

“These projects will not only address critical local municipal infrastructure priorities but will also create good-paying construction jobs for Albertans,” said Transportation Minister Prasad Panda. “In the longer term, these projects will improve vital trade routes and essential water services that industry needs in order to grow in Alberta.”
