Red Deer to host its first ever Santa Shuffle Fun Run and Elf Walk

The Santa Shuffle Fun Run and Elf Walk is coming to town.

The Santa Shuffle Fun Run and Elf Walk is coming to town.

Running Room’s five-km winter run and one-km walk to raise money for the local Salvation Army will be held on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.

“We’re quite excited being it’s the first Santa Shuffle in Red Deer,” said Maj. Larry Bridger of the Salvation Army on Wednesday.

Sporting goods retailer Running Room is opening a store at Southpointe Common on Nov. 30 and hosts the annual run in communities where they have stores.

This year’s Santa Shuffle will be held in 39 communities across Canada.

Bridger was warned not to expect more than 25 or 30 people to register for a first-time run.

But several Central Albertans are ready to lace up their sneakers.

“We’ve doubled that and we still have almost a month to go. As of Tuesday, we had 68 for Red Deer.”

Money raised will go to Salvation Army’s family and community services outreach programs.

Participants will meet at Running Room, at 169-2004 50th Ave, before they start the run that will take them towards 19th Street and back.

Post-run refreshments will be available, along with awards and prizes.
