Red Deer wins provincial prize in ParticipACTION community challenge

Red Deerians certainly took their fitness seriously in June.

On Tuesday, ParticipACTION announced the winners of its Community Challenge and Red Deer was named Alberta’s most active community.

Throughout the month of June, citizens tracked over 17.9 million minutes of activity.

Red Deer will be awarded $7,500 for the provincial prize.

Salisbury, New Brunswick, was crowned Canada’s Most Active Community and won the $100,000 grand prize to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.

Red Deer brought home the national award last year.

Overall, more than 1,600 communities tracked over 390 million physical activity minutes throughout June
