Live music, fireworks and maple-sugar taffy will be offered at the Red Deer Winter Carnival at Bower Ponds on Friday and Saturday.

This “wonderful winter event” will feature various family-friendly games and activities, say organizers, the ACFA Red Deer (local French-Canadian association).

On Friday evening there will be skating, sledding, a fire camp, arts and crafts and food booths. Fireworks will be set off at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Les Bucherons (The Lumberjacks) will offer classes on how to play the spoons, as well as a live concert. At 3 p.m. there will be a dance with Ivan Touko and other artists.

Pea soup, sugar pie and other traditional treats will be available. And fire pits and lights will be installed around the ponds to create “a magical winter evening atmosphere,” with decorations to enhance the winter theme.

The carnival celebrates French-Canadian culture and will run Friday, from 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“This year we are expanding the carnival by hosting it at Bower Ponds to allow for more activities for people of all ages. We want to create a winter wonderland for everyone in the community to enjoy,” say organizers.

“Don’t miss out... A great event for the whole family.”
