A trip to Winnipeg paid-off for a Red Deer woman who came home $100,000 richer.

Stephanie Maedel purchased her LOTTO MAX ticket at a 7-Eleven Avenue in Winnipeg during a recent trip to that city.

Maedel checked her ticket six times at a self-checker at a Winnipeg service station before she could process her win. “I was in total shock! I had to count all the zeroes.” she recalled.

When Maedel later called the prize office, her $100,000 win was confirmed. “It just freaked me out!” she recalled.

Maedel held on to her winning ticket until she was back in Alberta. Last week, she claimed her prize. She plans to put the windfall towards her mortgage and investments. She would also like to upgrade a trip she is planning through Europe.

“It still doesn’t feel real.”

Maedel is the second local to take home $100,000 since the beginning of April. Maedel matched the last 6 digits of the winning EXTRA number she added to her LOTTO MAX ticket for the March 29 draw – 1112619.
