“Leprechaun Joe” now has rainbow-coloured hair as he prepares to rappel down the side of the Stantec building in downtown Red Deer.

Joe Hittel, 85, dyed his hair into a rainbow this week after raising more than $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at an Aug. 22 fundraiser on the Ross Street Patio.

For the third straight year, Hittel will rappel down the side of the Stantec building during the foundation’s Rope for Hope event Sept. 19 while wearing a leprechaun costume.

He has raised about $40,000 so far this year. He was Canada’s top fundraiser last year after collecting $33,000.

Meanwhile, Chillabong’s Bar & Grill is donating $2 from each Chillabonger burger sold to Hittel’s campaign. A silent auction will be held at Chillabong’s as well from Sept. 10 to 13.
