Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith and Canada finished fourth in the 4×200 metre relay Wednesday night.
Canada finished just off the podium in fourth but set a Canadian record in the process, with a time of 7:43.77. China earned gold, the United States were second and Australia finished in the bronze medal position. Smith had a time of 1:57.30, swimming second of Canada’s four swimmers.
The 21-year-old had one medal in her first Olympic appearance. The Red Deer product and her team Canada crew collected silver on Saturday in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
With her Olympic experience over, Smith will return to Red Deer and turn her focus to next season, where she will swim for the University of Calgary Dinos in U Sports competition.
