The Regina Humane Society says it’s caring for 79 cats and kittens after they were seized from a home.

The humane society says it’s one of the largest animal hoarding cases ever seen in the city.

Spokeman Bill Thorn says, remarkably, the cats were in decent health considering the situation.

He says all the animals will be up for adoption at some point.

The seizure of so many animals at once has strained the shelter’s resources, so it is waiving all adult cat adoption fees to help find homes for the cats.

Kittens four months and younger can be adopted for a reduced fee of $50 until Aug. 31.

Details relating to any charges under the Animal Protection Act of Saskatchewan will not be released as the case is still under investigation.

“Despite living in feces and urine and deplorable conditions, and not having adequate food and water, the health of the animals was pretty good, so we’re very, very happy that our officers were able to intervene before things got to the point of deteriorating,” Thorn said (CKRM)
