Repairs started on overpass over Hwy 2 at Ponoka turnoff

Motorists urged to obey lower speed limit

Motorists are being warned to slow down as repairs are done to the damaged Hwy 2 overpass of Hwy 53 near Ponoka.

The damage was caused when a large truck carrying a high load struck the top of the overpass on Jan. 31.

Alberta Transportation has lowered the speed limit in the area to 80 km. Also, one southbound acceleration/deceleration lane on Hwy 2 has been closed off, which normally takes traffic onto and off of Hwy 53.

These changes will affect traffic leaving or going to Ponoka.

Alberta Transportation has started repairs on the overpass and expects to complete them as soon as possible. In the meantime, motorists are being urged to slow down, and obey all signs.
