Joel Larry Champion is facing several charges after he was arrested in Rocky Mountain House.
The 27-year-old repeat offender was observed participating in suspicious activity Tuesday and was arrested on outstanding warrants. He was also carrying an illegally obtained 30-30 rifle with ammunition.
He faces 17 charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to an order and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
“Rocky Mountain House RCMP’s local crime reduction unit remains active and focused on targeting repeat offenders within our community,” says Staff Sgt. Carl Dinsdale.
“It’s a success when we get an illegal firearm out of the wrong hands.”
Champion is in custody and made a court appearance on Thursday in Red Deer.
