Several residents of an apartment building in Olds have been displaced after a structure fire that took about four hours to contain.

The Town of Olds’ emergency management team organized a reception centre and temporary lodging for those who fled the fire at the Pomeroy Inn and Suites.

On Sunday at around 1 p.m., the Olds Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 5114 46th Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find a blaze in a basement suite of the three-storey building.

Occupants were evacuating the building and there was heavy smoke and fire venting from the south side of the structure, the fire department said in a release.

Didsbury Fire Department was called to support operations and provide relief.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be an accidental cooking incident.
