In the middle of Canadian Environment Week, Clean Air Day focuses on improving air quality and in Red Deer it means free transit.
All day Wednesday, people can ride Red Deer transit for free. If transit doesn’t fit schedules, people are encouraged to walk or cycle instead.
There will be posters on the bus that will allow people to enter a contest to win a $50 recreation, parks and culture gift card or a transit pass for the month of July.
According to the City of Red Deer, air quality is a focus area in the city’s environmental master plan. Despite efforts to improve air quality, Red Deer has not met national air quality standards in recent years, specifically for fine particulate matter.
