Rimbey RCMP arrested a Rocky Mountain House man wanted on five outstanding warrants earlier this week and recovered a stolen truck and trailer.

At about 2:14 p.m. on Wednesday, a Rimbey RCMP officer spotted a known and wanted man who was driving a pickup truck towing a trailer, both of which had been reported stolen.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle. Police say the suspect attempted to drive away, but drove into the ditch, where the vehicle got stuck.

The suspect then allegedly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Shortly after, the suspect was located and taken into custody with the assistance of RCMP police dog services. He sustained minor injuries.

The 23-year-old man was on a driving prohibition order and a release court order at the time of the arrest. He is facing a number of new charges, including two counts of being in possession of stolen property, eight counts of failing to comply with conditions from a release court order, resisting arrest and flight from police.

He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Friday.
