Rioting prisoners in central Alberta face charges

Arrest warrant issued for one accused

Ten people face charges after four people were stabbed during with a fight between rival prison gangs at Drumheller Institution in July.

Drumheller RCMP said “a large scale altercation” broke out in the courtyard of the medium security unit on July 20 at 9 p.m.

Another stabbing also took place inside a nearby building shortly after the riot.

Four inmates who were stabbed were transported to outside medical facilities. No staff were injured.

Daniel Loscombe, 37, was charged with assault and participating in a riot.

Omar Haji-Hussein, 36, Gatluak James, 24, Ryan Foster, 40, Manjot Hans, 23, Deibi Monterroso-Salazar, 33, and Robert Laing, 32, were each charged with assault with a weapon and participating in riot.

Melvin Skeete, 27, and Christian Lyamuremye, 32, were each charged with assault with a weapon as a result of the stabbing in the nearby building. Mohamed Ibrahim, 22 was also charged with assault.

An arrest warrant was issued for Daniel Loscombe, who is currently on release. Others charged are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19, 26, and Dec. 17, 2021, in Drumheller Provincial Court.
