Robert Maloughney is the newest Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools trustee, it was confirmed Friday.

Maloughney received 381 votes to win the recent Red Deer area ward byelection. The only other candidate, Terry Kulczycki, received 83 votes, according to official results.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to use my years of experience in Catholic education in a new capacity of service,” said Maloughney, who has teaching and administrative experience in the school division.

Maloughney began working with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools in 1987. He has worked at six schools, teaching every grade from kindergarten to Grade 12, and has spent the past 14 years as a school-based administrator.

Board chair Anne Marie Watson said trustees are excited to welcome Maloughney.

“Rob’s commitment to Catholic education, combined with his intimate knowledge of the education system in Alberta, make him a great addition to our board,” said Watson.

Maloughney’s three children attended Catholic schools in Red Deer. His wife and his oldest daughter are currently teachers in the division.
