A Rocky Mountain House couple were sure their eyes were tricking them when they scanned their LOTTO 6/49 ticket for the April 15 draw and discovered they won $154,191.70.
“We definitely thought the machine was broken. I even said it to the cashier,” laughed Charlene Barnes in a statement.
“Then we had the cashier check it and the same amount came up on the screen. Well, the machine was not broken!” said Dwayne Herbst when they claimed their prize.
Barnes and Herbst said they’re not sure what they’re going to do with their winnings just yet.
“For now, we’ll probably put the money into savings. We’ll make some decisions down the line,” said Barnes.
The couple said there is one thing they know for sure: winning the lottery feels great!
“We’re very happy. It feels awesome, it’s a really good feeling!” Barnes said.
The couple purchased their $10 LOTTO 6/49 ticket from G & B Fuels, located at 70322 Highway 11A in Clearwater County.
They won the game’s second-highest prize by matching five of the six Classic Draw numbers and the Bonus number – 1, 20, 30, 35, 36 and 44, and the Bonus number, 48.
Herbst and Barnes shared the second-top prize prize with two other winning tickets; the first was another ticket purchased somewhere in Alberta, the second was purchased somewhere in Ontario.
Saturday’s LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot is $40 million. Tickets for the draw are available until 8:30 pm MT at all Lotto Spot locations, Subscription Spot and the Lotto Spot app.
