Cory Nicholson, 35, also faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of stolen property.

Nicholson, who was arrested last Friday afternoon in Red Deer, remains in custody.

A 51-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed in a Terrace Park residence and rushed to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre by ambulance.

Red Deer City RCMP were called to the townhouses at Terrace Park at around 1:20 p.m. to an assault in progress.

The home is part of an apartment complex of townhouses, south of Ross Street and east of 37th Avenue.

Cpl. Kathe Deheer of city RCMP said on Tuesday that there were other people in the residence at the time who were known to each other.

Police also recovered a stolen vehicle at the scene, Deheer said.

The injured woman remains in hospital after undergoing surgery last week.
