A Rocky Mountain House boy who was attacked by a cougar last summer has been named the next STARS Mayor of the Mall at West Edmonton Mall.

Cason Feuser, seven, was provided critical care and transport by STARS to the University of Alberta Hospital in the summer of 2022 after being attacked by a cougar while vacationing at a campsite with family friends near Rocky Mountain House.

As Mayor of the Mall, Feuser and his family will be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience at WEM tailored specifically to his interests, including VIP access to attractions, shopping sprees at his favourite stores, and a night at Fantasyland Hotel.

West Edmonton Mall and Local Environmental Services will recognize his bravery and the important medical services that STARS provided to him following the cougar attack and continue to provide daily to communities across Alberta.

“We can’t think of a better candidate for Mayor of the Mall than a child as brave as Cason was that horrible day,” said Shell Odenbach, STARS flight nurse and academy team leader.

“It was our pleasure to provide critical care to him when he needed help. On behalf of everyone at STARS, congratulations to Cason on this wonderful honour and we hope he continues to be healthy and happy and show great leadership.”

Feuser will be officially named Mayor of the Mall on Monday, with a grand entrance, parade and certificate presentation.

“Cason’s courageousness is inspiring. He showed immense bravery and continues to keep a positive outlook throughout his recovery. We’re so proud to elect Mayor Cason Feuser and hope that his attitude and spirit is a shining example of kids who overcome great challenges in our community,” said Daniel Person, VP Specialty Leasing & Partnerships for West Edmonton Mall.
