Two men are facing charges after being found sleeping in a stolen vehicle west of Rocky Mountain House.
An RCMP officer spotted a vehicle parked on the side of Highway 11, with the driver’s side rear door open and a pair of legs dangling out, last Thursday at about 3 p.m.
“Out of concern for the person’s safety, the officer stopped to investigate and a query of the vehicle showed it had been stolen out of Edmonton three days earlier,” RCMP said in a press release Wednesday.
“The keys to the vehicle were secured while the occupants remained asleep. The driver and passenger were then arrested and taken into custody for possession of the stolen property.”
A 25-year-old man a 24-year-old man, both from central Alberta, are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and stolen property under $5,000, as further investigation showed the licence plate was stolen from another vehicle.
The 24-year-old had seven outstanding Criminal Code warrants for unrelated offences.
