Rocky Mountain House RCMP are investigating the death of a 64-year-old man after responding to a stabbing at a rural residence near the town on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Hwy 752, near Cow Lake about 15 kms southwest of Rocky.

“We have to confirm cause of death and do interviews today, but we should have more of an answer (Thursday) afternoon,” said Sgt. Chris Matechuk, with the Rocky Mountain House RCMP.

“I can say what it looks like, but the medical examiners will confirm it.”

Matechuk confirmed a 54-year-old male has been taken into custody and that the detained man knew the victim. Charges have not been laid, and Matechuk said the autopsy results should be ready by Thursday afternoon.

RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Major Crimes Unit are assisting Matechuk’s detachment with the investigation, he said.
