The body of a 34-year-old Calgary man was finally located and pulled from the Clearwater River near Rocky by Search and Rescue workers on Tuesday.

On June 30, 2019 Rocky Mountain House RCMP had received a report of a possible drowning at the Clearwater River in Clearwater County. Witnesses had reported seeing a male wearing a life jacket floating in the turbulent river but couldn’t make contact with him before they called police.

The person in the life jacket was last seen in the water approximately 28 miles west of the Clearwater Bridge near Highway 22 and Highway 591.

On Tuesday, his body was found about one to two kilometres away from where he was last seen in the river.

The name of the deceased will not be released.

While police had previously located his vehicle and boat trailer near this same area, the recovery of his body had been hampered for several days by strong river currents and debris. An RCMP helicopter had also arrived to do an aerial search but was unable to locate the man or his boat.
