A male teenager from Rocky is dead after being shot with some sort of projectile.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP are investigating a bizarre shooting that did not involve a gun, but a pen-like weapon that was capable of shooting various forms of projectiles.

According to a preliminary police investigation, two males in their early teens were sitting in a parked vehicle outside a residence at about 4 p.m. Monday. One of the males picked up the pen-like object “and began to manipulate it.”

It went off and the victim was shot with something.

The injured teen was treated at the scene by ambulance workers and transported to Rocky hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy, planned for Wednesday in Calgary, will hopefully provide police with a cause of death and positively identify the victim.

The incident is still under investigation by Rocky police, with support from the Calgary major crimes unit. No arrests have yet been made.
