A 19-year-old Spruce Grove man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a Wednesday morning rollover on Highway 2 north of Didsbury.

Both northbound lanes of Highway 2 north of Didsbury were open again around 2 p.m. on Wednesday – about five hours after the single-vehicle collision.

RCMP say that an SUV that was southbound on Highway 2 around 9:10 a.m. lost control about two kilometres south of the Highway 27 overpass east of Olds and rolled, landing in the northbound lane.

The male driver was taken by a STARS helicopter to a nearby hospital to be treated. A 19-year-old male passenger, also from Spruce Grove, was taken to hospital by ground ambulance as a precaution.

Both northbound lanes of Highway 2 were closed at first while the scene was cleared. Drivers were diverted off the highway at the Didsbury overpass.

One lane was reopened about 10:50 a.m. and the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit said both lanes were open again shortly after 2 p.m.

The cause of the rollover remains under investigation.
