The group that represents Alberta’s 69 counties and municipal districts will vote on a motion to keep the R-C-M-P as their police force.

The Rural Municipalities of Alberta motion calls for asking Premier Jason Kenney’s government not to create an Alberta provincial police service.

Delegates are to vote on the question at the association’s convention in Edmonton later this month.

The motion sponsored by Northern Sunrise County notes that dozens of municipalities already oppose a provincial police force, and that it would cost Albertans more than 188-million dollars a year in lost federal contributions, not including transition costs.
