Red Deer resident Penny Omilon has written this poem as a tribute to all the COVID-19 heroes.

“My family and I wish to thank all the servants during this horrifying season. Thank you to all the medical professionals, hospital cleaners, first responders front line workers, law enforcement, military, bus drivers, grocery workers, teachers, truckers, farmers, couriers, mail services, sanitation, plant workers, all other essential services, working to keep us alive, protect, feed and supply us.”

“God bless you all, I’m praying daily for this evil invader to die for good,” says Omilon.

Hear The Dying Say

Hear the cries of humanity, overwhelmed with sorrow

No safe place, caught off guard, running from an enemy we cannot see

A cloud of darkness suddenly hovering over us, hoping for tomorrow

Starving for peace, layers of pain, sleepless nights, the unknown paralyzing

Moment by moment we see death rising, living insanity, insanity

Fall on my knees, cry out to God for grace, and mercy

Hear the dying say, people listen “stay home for the living,”

time to be still, time to pray

Hear the blood crying out from the mass graves, guard the living

This invisible demon, roaming, devouring all it can

Human suffering mounting, weeping not ceasing

Shadows of death looming in the distance, need a real Iron Man

Facing a global war from hell that just won’t vanish

Looking to heaven for hope and healing, God please see all the anguish

Hear the dying say “save the living,”

People listen, time to be still, time to pray

Never ending tears, becoming a rushing waterfall

Souls crushed with grief, realization some souls cannot be saved

Many asking, is this the day I will die? Take last breath in nightfall

Facing a reality, breath a miracle we took for granted, life just a vapor

Living a global nightmare, feeling weary, hopeless and ragged

Hear the dying say, people listen “stay home for the living,”

Time to be still, time to pray

Grateful for the human angels sacrificing daily to save us

More than heroes, guardians of the earth, the true avengers,

Laying down their lives daily, walking into unexpected danger

Doing God’s work to defeat this growing darkness

Hear the dying say “save the living,”

People listen, time to be still, time to pray

Memories of Covid will never fade, won’t be erased, scars run deep

Setting the why is daunting, take a God miracle to heal

Love our spouses, children, family and friends, pray for them to sleep

Save the hugs and kisses until we defeat this terrorizing evil looking to kill

Together, together, make love, kindness, goodness, and courage, the new anthem

With love risen, light, prayer and hope as bright as the sun, we will all survive it.

Now hear the dying say, save the living, people listen, pray, pray
