Saving Grace Animal Society is holding a Saturday telethon to raise $75,000 for a new veterinarian clinic in Alix.

The event will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be hosted at Lacombe’s Blindman Brewing via Facebook Live.

Society co-executive director Amanda McClughan says the fundraising top-up that will allow the society to proceed with plans to construct a new veterinarian clinic this year at their Alix facility

“We have been very fortunate with our clinic fundraising efforts so far, and we are so close to hitting our goal that it’s getting very hard to contain our excitement” says McClughan.

A new vet clinic would have a significant impact on the operational abilities of Saving Grace Animal Society, allowing the animal rescue and rehabilitation team to save time and resources to better serve the animals in their care.

“Last year our medical bills averaged $65,000.00 per month, and we have projected savings of 50 to 60 per cent by having our own veterinary clinic on-site and ready to serve the animals we take in,” says McClughan, added that the organization has experienced tremendous strain in keeping up with rescues, animal overflow and higher-than-normal medical trauma cases in recent months.

“During the telethon, our participants will be encouraged to reach out to their friends, neighbours and networks to help raise funds for Saving Grace, and have an opportunity at prizes too,” says McClughan, adding that anyone can donate online or in person throughout the event.

Updates will be posted on Saving Grace Animal Society social media platforms two to three times every hour, with special guest interviews, fundraising tallies, sponsor shout-outs and updates on some of the society’s most heart-warming animal rescue stories.
