Seeds of Growth and other art shows are on for March 3 First Friday in Red Deer

Various landscapes, abstracted and realistic, can be seen during gallery openings

Spring is in the air at the March First Friday art gallery receptions in Red Deer.

Seeds Of Growth, the 2023 Red Deer Arts Council Members Show, is running to April 23 at the Kiwanis Gallery in the Red Deer Public Library. Sixteen local artists are showing their multi-media works. Their interpretations will explore personal growth, nature and beyond. A First Fridays opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 3.

Common Threads is a watercolour painting and quilting show by Corinne Anderton. Her display, which explores colour theory, shapes, and inspiration, is on at the Red Deer Arts Council’s New Community Gallery, 6–4919 49 St. to April 5. There will be a First Friday opening from 5–7 p.m.

Local artist Abigail Pederson is showing her works at the Velvet Olive Lounge, 4928C 50 St. from April 30. Friday’s opening reception is from 6–8 p.m.

Acrylic paintings by Evelyn Thurmeier can be seen in the Trial and Colour show in the Corridor Community Gallery, downstairs at the Red Deer Recreation Centre.

Artist Lori Sokoluk will be showing her abstract landscape acrylic paintings and collage at the Viewpoint Gallery, in the City of Red Deer’s Culture Service building until April 28. A First Friday opening reception is from 6-8 p.m. With an artist talk at 6:30 p.m.

Red Deer Polytechnic visual arts students present The Exquisite Seriography joint show at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery to March 17. A Friday reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. with the artists in attendance. Other exhibitions at the museum are Upon Further Reflection: Highlights from the Past 50 Years and Landmarks: A Sense of Place.

His Hands…my hand, pastel paintings by artist: David Coates are showing at the Marjorie Wood Gallery at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre to April 20. An opening reception will be held Friday from 4–6 p.m. The artist will be in attendance and 25 per cent of all art sales will go to local charities.

Artist Jodi Neufeld’s paintings can be seen in the one-day Reaching and Returning show on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Artribute Art School in the Old Courthouse.

The works of artist Susan Delaney are featured at Riverlands Studio and Gallery, 5123 48 Street. The acrylic, collage, mixed-media paintings are showing until March 15.
