Seven central Alberta craft breweries win recognition at the Alberta Beer Awards

Blindman Brewing of Lacombe picked up the Bronze award for Brewery of the Year at the Alberta Beer Awards on Wednesday.

Several other central Alberta craft breweries picked up high honours in various categories of beer at the ceremony held at Bo’s Bar and Stage in Red Deer. The awards were judged based on 464 entries from 46 breweries in 31 categories and are one of the key events in Alberta Beer Week festivities.

Not only did Blindman Brewing place third out of all Alberta entries for Brewery of the Year, it also won the Gold award for Barrel-Aged Beer (24-2 Stock Ale), Silver for Mixed Fermentation with Fruit Beer (Vestige) and Silver for All Alberta Beer (Five Mile Rustic Saison).

Snake Lake Brewing Company of Sylvan Lake received a Gold for Specialty IPA (Day Tripper NZ Spritzer, IPA), Gold for Craft Soda and Lemonade (Snake Lake Craft Lemonade), Silver for Spiced Beer (Ice Cutter, Vanilla Latte Stout) and Bronze for German/Czech Style Pilsner (Kinabick Pilsner).

The Siding 14 Brewing Company of Ponoka received Gold for Brown Ale (Brakeman Brown Ale).

Red Deer’s Troubled Monk picked up Silver for Craft Soda and Lemonade (Orange Soda), Bronze for Patio Beer (Daycation Lager), and Bronze for Mixed Fermentation Beer (Harry Dunne Golden Sour).

The Olds College Brewery won Silver for American-Style Wheat Beer (Hay City).

Sawback Brewing Co. in Red Deer got Silver for Amber Ale (Irish Red).

And Hawk Tail Brewery in Rimbey won Bronze for American-Style Wheat Beer (Hawk Tail Golden Ale).
