Several coal cars in Canadian Pacific Railway freight off tracks in Alberta

Several cars in a Canadian Pacific Railway freight have derailed in southern Alberta — the second accident in the region involving a CP train in less than a week.

PINCHER CREEK — Several cars in a Canadian Pacific Railway freight have derailed in southern Alberta — the second accident in the region involving a CP train in less than a week.

Salem Woodrow, a company spokesman, says in a statement that 18 cars loaded with coal left the tracks around 8:30 p.m. Sunday east of Lundbreck.

Woodrow says there were no injuries and that work is underway to pick up spilled coal.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

No one was hurt when 17 empty grain hopper cars went off the tracks early last Thursday morning near the community of Pearce.

That accident is also being investigated by the safety board.
