Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Red Deer and parts of central Alberta

A severe thunderstorm is in effect for Red Deer and some parts of central Alberta.

Environment Canada website states conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the City of Red Deer, County of Stettler near Donalda, Stettler and Big Valley area. In Lacombe County, the watch is in effect for Clive, Alix and Mirror along with City of Lacombe, Blackfalds and Bentley area.

The watch is also in effect near Sylvan Lake, Elnora, Penhold, Innisfail and Bowden areas.

Thunderstorms will continue to move across portions of central and southern Alberta. Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe this afternoon into the evening.

In Red Deer tonight expect clear early this evening then partly cloudy with 60 per cent chance of showers this evening and after midnight.
