Crown prosecutors have stayed a sexual assault charge for a man who was accused in a Canada Day 2018 attack.
Darrien Francis Nepoose, of Red Deer, was accused of aggravated sexual assault for an incident involving a 14-year-old girl. Nepoose was 18 at the time.
Police said she suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Crown prosecutors stayed the charge on Jan. 23, ahead of a trial that was to have taken place this week.
Charges are stayed when the Crown prosecutor determines there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction. The charge can be reactivated within a year, but that rarely happens.
