The iconic Sheraton Hotel Red Deer has a new name and brand: Cambridge Hotels & Conference Centre.

While the property has a new name and logo, an employee says the same team, amenities and guest services remain.

Cambridge Red Deer Hotel & Conference Centre, with its 241 hotel rooms and suites, will continue to be managed by Atlific Hotels.

“This unique property is the premiere conference facility in central Alberta, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide an exceptional experience to all of our guests as the newly rebranded Cambridge Red Deer Hotel & Conference Centre,” said Gordon Johnson, vice-president of operations, with Atlific Hotels.

“It has a long history of hosting some of the most distinguished events and guests in the region, and we are excited about what’s next as we embark on this new chapter in its successful story.”

The hotel features an exhibition hall, 16 meeting spaces, and a ballroom.

The rebranding isn’t a first for the hotel at 3310 Gaetz Ave.

Temple Real Estate Investment Trust bought the hotel from the Pasutto family in 2008. In late 2011, Capri Hotel was rebranded to Sheraton Red Deer Hotel.

Temple paid $40 million for the property.

The hotel originated as the Capri Motor Inn in 1961, with Al Pasutto buying it three years later.

A number of expansions occurred over the years, including the addition of the hotel’s tower in 1981.

“Cambridge Red Deer joins established independent Cambridge properties in Eastern Canada and allows us to grow a proudly Canadian Cambridge portfolio,” said Sanjay Rateja, vice-president of operations, with Temple.
