The Korean War Veterans of Red Deer is hosting a shortened version of its annual Remembrance Day ceremony at Veterans’ Park at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Masks are required for all those attending and social distancing is recommended.

A moment of silence will be held at 11 a.m.

The event will also be livestreamed.

“There will be a barrier tape in place for veterans and such, but there will be a loud sound system, so the service can be heard from a distance,” the Facebook post states.

“We are also doing a shortened version of the ceremony to decrease the chance of transmission.”

The Red Deer Legion won’t be hosting a ceremony this year at the Servus Arena. Instead, a few executives will lay wreaths on behalf of the branch Wednesday morning.

The legion will be closed on Wednesday.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, encouraged Albertans to commemerate Remembrance Day while protecting each other.

“I encourage you to participate virtually, if possible,” she said Monday.
