Shots fired in Samson townsite, Hobbema RCMP seeking suspect

RCMP in Hobbema are seeking a man accused of firing a weapon within the Samson townsite at Hobbema on Friday afternoon.

RCMP in Hobbema are seeking a man accused of firing a weapon within the Samson townsite at Hobbema on Friday afternoon.

Const. Perry Cardinal of the Maskwacis RCMP said police were called to investigating complaints of shots being fired in an outdoor area of the townsite. Local RCMP along with members from the Wetaskiwin and Ponoka detachments and the Wetaskiwin RCMP dog service were called to the scene but were unable to locate a suspect or weapon.

Cardinal said police are withholding some details about the incident, including the type of weapon believed to have been used.

They are looking for a suspect alleged to have gang connections.

Charges have been laid and a warrant issued for Hobbema resident Justin Donovan Whitebear, 20.

While police are seeking information that would lead to Whitebear’s arrest, people are cautioned not to approach him as he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
