Shrek the Musical is coming to a Red Deer stage starting on March 6

Cornerstone Youth Theatre brings tale of the grouchy green ogre to life

A grouchy, green ogre named Shrek is coming to a stage near you, as Red Deer’s Cornerstone Youth Theatre presents Shrek the Musical.

Irreverent entertainment for the whole family will be presented by 60 talented young performers when the musical opens March 6 at the New Life Fellowship, 20 Kelloway Cres.

This Tony-Award-winning fairy tale is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, which provided a comic adventure for all ages.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” Thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero and a story about how there’s more to life than meets the eye — and that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

The musical will bring back all the beloved characters from the animated film, including wise-cracking sidekick Donkey, and Fiona, the feisty princess who doesn’t need rescuing.

Shrek the Musical will take audiences on a journey that will also involve a short, short-tempered villain, a cookie with an attitude, and more than a dozen other fairy tale misfits.

The show runs to March 15. For reservations and advance tickets, visit www.cornerstoneyouththeatre.org.
