Six COVID-19 outbreaks at Red Deer facilities continue to have active cases

Some group homes, seniors’ facilities are still in lockdown

Outbreaks of COVID-19 continue to be a concern in shared-living quarters in Red Deer, including group homes and long-term care facilities.

As of Tuesday, there are still four active viral cases at Points West Living seniors’ residence in Red Deer. Alberta Health was initially notified of 37 cases linked to this outbreak. Of these, 29 people have recovered and there were four deaths.

Another outbreak of the virus at Extendicare Michener Hill seniors’ residence led to Alberta Health being notified of eight cases. Of these, one case is still active, five people have recovered, and there were two deaths.

There were 11 viral cases linked to Etana Wells group home in Red Deer. Alberta Health was notified that all 11 cases are still active.

Another private group home in the city has four still active cases.

At Kentwood Place in Red Deer, Alberta Health was notified of a seven-case viral outbreak. One case is still active and six have recovered.

There is some brighter news at other city seniors residences.

Revera Aspen Ridge had four cases linked to an outbreak. All are now recovered.

Of the three COVID-19 cases at Covenant Care Villa Marie, Red Deer, all have recovered.

Three cases were linked to Catholic Social Services High Garden. All are now recovered.

But the November Covid-19 outbreak at Olymel, Red Deer’s pork processing plant, continues to have some lingering impact. Alberta Health had been initially notified of 31 cases linked to the Olymel outbreak. Of these, 28 have recovered and three are still active.
